Keshet Int'l boards suspense drama NUTUK from Manayek creators for MIPCOM
From the creative team behind Manayek, Tehran, and Absentia comes an 8-part drama centered in past-life memories, produced by Yoav Gross productions for Keshet 12
Global content producer and distributor Keshet International today announces that its MIPCOM slate will be headlined by Nutuk, by a suspense drama in which a boy’s memories of another life are key to solving a murder mystery.
Created by Roy Iddan (Manayek, Tehran) and Nahd Basheir (A Dead Sea, Dr Kharage), directed by Adam Sanderson (Absentia, Sirens), and produced by Yoav Gross Productions (Manayek, Red Skies) for Keshet 12, Nutuk (8x60’) is told in both Arabic and Hebrew.
Kelly Wright, KI’s MD of Distribution, says: “Memories of a past life - or reincarnation - is a phenomenon found across many societies, spanning countless religious, spiritual, and cultural traditions. As a result, more than two billion people around the world may relate to the concept in some way. For many, it’s a system of cosmic justice; for others, a source of comfort and hope beyond death. In Nutuk, Keshet 12’s gripping new drama, reincarnation serves as the emotional and narrative engine that drives a suspenseful investigation story. It’s a bold drama with global resonance told in Keshet’s signature style —and we’re excited to present it to buyers in Cannes.”
Karni Ziv, Head of Drama and Comedy at Keshet 12, comments: “At Keshet, we’re dedicated to telling stories that reflect the rich diversity of our small nation. In Nutuk, the Druze community’s deeply spiritual—and often hidden—theology around reincarnation is brought to life with a sense of mystery and reverence. Roy, Nahd, and Adam have captured this beautifully, crafting a powerful and authentic narrative that resonates on both emotional and cultural levels.”
When stopping to fill up their car with gas, parents Rami and Maya Fares suddenly realize their 7-year-old son Daniel has gone missing. When he re-appears several minutes later, Daniel tells them that he's been with his brother. But Daniel is an only child.
Daniel's parents dismiss the incident as childish fantasy. But when Daniel begins to recall more and more vivid memories, they understand that their son may be undergoing "nutuk" - meaning "reincarnation" in the Druze community. Daniel's visions point to the unsolved disappearance of a man named Ali Khiradin... a man Daniel believes was murdered. His nutuk sends the Fares family headfirst into a criminal conspiracy that the perpetrators have tried to keep buried for years - and will stop at nothing to protect.
Daniel is played by newcomer Jude Khatib, who stars alongside Lucy Ayoub (Fauda, Night Therapy) as his mother Maya and Amgad Badr (Shabas, Fauda, Jerusalem) as his father Rami. Co-creator Nahd Basheir stars as the brother of the murdered Ali, Suliman Khiradin.
Slated to premiere on Keshet 12 this October, Nutuk was originally greenlit by Keshet Broadcasting in 2022, as part of a 100M NIS investment in a slate of eight scripted shows that also included the Series Mania-winning A Body that Works, Trust No One, and Save the Date, all three of which have been picked up by Netflix.
With a well-located stand in Riviera 7 (R7:K22), KI is returning to Cannes this MIPCOM with an autumn slate – to be announced in full shortly - brimming with gripping entertainment to match. To book meetings KI’s Sales team, buyers should contact Kate Orlovsky (kate.orlovsky@keshet-tv.com).
