Programme Overview
Description
In this new, impactful documentary, Ellie Simmonds asks one of the most personal questions of her life: “Should I have children?" As someone living with a disability, Ellie knows there’s a chance she could pass on her condition to a child. Now, she’s confronting the complex, deeply emotional considerations that come with that possibility. Not just medically, but morally, socially, and personally.
Through exclusive access to one of the UK's leading Foetal Medicine Units, Ellie gains insight into families navigating the challenging decision-making process that comes with a prenatal diagnosis of disability. She will explore the assumption that life as a person with a disability is one of limitation, and question whether the representation of people like herself in the public eye has brought down barriers.
Following the BAFTA-winning success of Ellie Simmonds: Finding My Secret Family, this new documentary sees Ellie embark on a powerful and intimate journey. With honesty and vulnerability, she explores the fears, hopes, and difficult choices many prospective parents face, particularly those with disabilities. Is she ready for the realities of pregnancy? What kind of life could she offer a child? And how does society view that choice?
