Programme Overview
Description
Visit first-hand Finland’s mythical “Sleeping Giants” – an ancient mountain range believed by Finnish folklore to be a surviving witness of the world’s creation.
Following the success of Tale of a Forest (2012) and Tale of a Lake (2016), Tale of the Sleeping Giants (Tunturin Tarina) is screenwriter Antti Tuuri’s vision of these mountains as sleeping giants told in the form of a nature movie. Described by Seiska magazine as “breathtakingly beautiful” and featuring an “epic soundtrack” by award-winning composer Panu Aaltio, this documentary feature film is a journey into the rich mythology of ancient Scandinavia.
Following the lives of animals such as wolverines, reindeer, foxes, weasels, bears, humpback whales and more, Tale of the Sleeping Giants explores the beliefs and stories associated with each while celebrating the mythical mountains, lakes, and rivers of Lapland’s arctic wilderness.
Tale of the Sleeping Giants is a visual feast shot over a three-year period in the remote regions of Scandinavia, hundreds of kilometers away from any human settlements. Cutting edge technology made it possible for various species to be observed for extended periods, giving viewers an access to rarely seen behaviors and landscapes.
