Programme Overview

Description

A heartwarming, surreal and extremely funny new Icelandic comedy-drama explores a pair of modern men’s relationship with traditional masculine roles, pride, and co-dependence.

Actors Ólafur Darri Ólafsson and Vikingur Kristjánsson have been friends since drama school. As they reach middle age, Darri is hugely successful, whereas Vikingur’s life and career are at a crossroads. When Vikingur suggests a road trip to the Westfjords (where he grew up) to give them both time to recharge, Darri reluctantly agrees.

Forced to share a car for hours, Darri and Vikingur’s relationship is laid bare, and slowly they confront their contrasting fortunes, mental health issues, and personality shortcomings.

Amid the breathtaking backdrop of the Westfjords, the pair find themselves in a series of bizarre scenes, including gun-toting method actors, an exploding car, and facing the wrath of an entire fishing village. Darri and Vikingur come face to face with their own imperfections when they bump into their Danish equivalents (real-life stars Nicolas Bro and Jonas Schmidt).

Multi-award-winning director Baldvin Z isn’t afraid to push the boundaries of awkwardness, honesty, and humor as he explores the flaws and strengths of the two characters. While Darri and Vikingur play exaggerated versions of their real selves, the issues they discuss are highly relevant to modern men.
