Programme Overview
Description
Based on the Israeli black comedy Stockholm created by Noa Yedlin, this German adaptation known locally as Unter Freunden Stirbt Man Nicht also tells the story of a group of long-standing friends in their prime.
When Hermann - a renowned scientist and hottest candidate for the Nobel Prize in Business - dies unexpectedly, the bereaved come up with a daring plan: to keep their friend's death a secret for the five days until the nominations are announced. Their endeavor quickly puts their friendship to the test and gets out of control…
Each episode is dedicated to one of our four key characters within Herman's friend group, enabling the audience to get to know each individual's personality and story. Confronted with their friend’s death, long-hidden secrets come to light, inconvenient truths are said, and a disillusioning life balance is more than obvious… When the children don’t get in touch anymore, blows of fate increasingly occur and life is reduced to its simplest form. It’s only then that one realizes what is important and what real friendship means.
Here, 60-year-olds and 70-year-olds are portrayed without stereotypes: They live in the moment more than any generation before them, with both feet on the ground they don’t define themselves by their age or their relationships with younger people. They handle their smartphones like anyone else - they’re just using the largest font possible…
