Programme Overview
Description
Take a deep dive into the bizarre world of three extreme hoarders whose “collections” are threatening to destroy their lives. See first-hand how they fell into this mental disorder and if there’s hope for them to come out clean.
Each hoarder has a unique challenge and motivation: a 70-year-old paper boy obsessed with creating toppling towers of newspapers, a fastidious shopping addict making her home a dangerous obstacle course, and finally a rubbish hoarder whose kitchen has become a biohazard. Their loved ones hope that with threats of eviction and emotional support, the hoard could be reduced.
This documentary takes a nuanced approach of seeing how each of them struggle with their mental health disorders. It’s a rare glimpse of a world hoarders will not even let their families see. Each of them has a cathartic glimmer of hope: a usable kitchen, a clean corner, or a resolution to change for the better.
Can these hoarders dig themselves out before it’s too late? With one in every 20 of us harboring secret hoarding urges, this documentary helps us better understand this dangerous mental condition.
