Programme Overview
Description
Rising Star is a trailblazing interactive talent format that creates MUST SEE viewing by bringing together large audiences for a collective, active television experience. Hailing a new era in home entertainment, its inception marked a world first as the only talent show in which an unlimited number of viewers are able to determine the narrative in real-time.
During each episode of Rising Star, home audiences decide who will advance in real-time via the show’s free voting app, while individual viewers’ pictures appear on the large screen facing the performer and judges vote simultaneously by hitting their buttons in the studio. When the performer reaches the designated voting percentage the screen rises and the new star is revealed.
Originally created and produced by Tedy Productions and Keshet Broadcasting, the format was the fastest-selling talent show on record when launched at MIPCOM in 2013 and to date, has been adapted locally in 17 territories worldwide – including India (Colours TV), Brazil (Globo), Indonesia (RCT1), China (CCTV), and Greece (Antenna) – with in excess of 200 million votes cast globally.
In Israel, Rising Star is not only the most watched music show in the country but also the most watched show of 2017, and is now in its sixth series for Keshet 12. Season five discovered the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest winner, Netta, helping to triple Eurovision’s viewership and popularity.
In Greece, the season finale was watched by more than half of the country’s TV viewers, achieving a 56% share during the episode’s peak, and a 35% share for the entire episode. On average, Globo’s third season of the innovative format garnered an average share of 31% across Brazil. While in the Asian region, Rising Star has been recently been re-commissioned for a third season in Indonesia (RCTI), where it won the Panasonic Gobel Award for Best Program Talent Show & Reality Show in 2015; and also in India (Colours TV), where the first series marked the country’s first ever real time voting show and attracted three million voters. Season two was watched by 192 million viewers across India.
Keshet International has recently signed a major licensing deal with the Asia Broadcasting Corporation that will see five 52 x 90’ series premiere on Hiru TV.
