Programme Overview
Description
Set in a busy newspaper office, The Paper lifts the lid on political corruption, crime, betrayal, and the lust for power, led by a cast of characters that will stop at nothing to achieve their goals. From the seats of the highest political powers in the country to the church, and from big business to the media and its role within the system, no sacred institution is safe in this searing cocktail of morality, greed, and power.
The first two seasons introduced us to those with their eyes on the prize within the political system, and how they formed Faustian relationships so they could maneuver with impunity through the shadows in order to take what they wanted when they wanted. They also sought to control the media and its output, but Novine held firm even if the political pressure was immense from all sides and even their journalists’ own foibles and flaws threatened to undermine them. The third and final season examines the Croatian judiciary and how the corrupt politicians seek to control the very laws that govern the land.
To date, The Paper has been licensed by Keshet International to Netflix in a multi-territory deal, to Canal+ in Austria, and HBO Europe in the Balkans.
