Programme Overview

Description

Arab Labor is a ground-breaking and courageous comedy-drama series that addresses the sensitive issue of the Arab-Jewish cultural divide in Israel, with unadulterated wit and humor.

Amjad is an Arab journalist who writes for a successful Israeli newspaper. His being an Arab and his desire to be part of Israeli society are in constant conflict. His smart, opinionated wife, Bushra, feels proud of her Palestinian identity and does not share Amjad’s aspiration to assimilate, and encourages her husband and their daughter, Maya, to embrace who they are.

Each episode finds Amjad in various predicaments that make him try to conceal any and all traces of his ‘Arabness’, while simultaneously embodying the exact stereotypes he vehemently denies. The result is a brilliant, laugh-out-loud comedy that delivers significant social commentary on the Palestinian-Israeli experience.

Created by Sayed Kashua, the Israeli-born Palestinian journalist who also wrote The Writer, Arab Labor ran for four seasons on Keshet 12, attracting an average audience share of 34%.
