If you can’t answer these general knowledge questions, the viewers at home will!
50 Things You Have to Know is an interactive general knowledge quiz that tests the nation’s understanding of the fundamental terms – “The Things” – we all need to know in the modern world. The couples playing in the high tech studio are competing not only against each other, but also the at-home audience, as they do battle for the big prize.
World-renowned authorities on culture, Nobel laureates in science and internationally acclaimed historians have set the bar across 10 key categories, putting together lists of the fifty key facts in their fields: modern history, science and economics, for example. Now it’s all down to the rest of us, as we test our knowledge of everything from the Big Bang Theory to the European Union.
At the beginning of each episode, the studio computer selects a list of 50 things, from across the range of topics, as the questions of the day. The terms are displayed on-screen with three possible answers to each one. The couple which gets the most right stays in the game. Viewers play along in real time via the show’s app to see if they can do better, building their knowledge as they advance.
In the second round, the most successful studio couple plays live against the best performing families at home, with ten final questions. In a dramatic moment, the nation’s performance is revealed at the end of the show, and only if the couple have beaten the national average score are they awarded the show’s Grand Prize.
Who knows enough to win? Will it be the on-screen contenders or one amazing family playing along at home?
