The Nation’s Leading Chefs are Put to the Ultimate Test
What happens when two of the nation’s most successful and celebrated chefs, used to judging the work of others, meet for the ultimate culinary competition? In Battle of the Chefs two renowned chefs are sent to a country that boasts some of the world’s most beautiful landscapes and produces some of its finest cuisine, to compete against each other and determine who is the better chef.
The tables are turned on these kitchen heroes, who are virtually unknown in their foreign location and become contestants competing in regional challenges to win the seal of approval from local experts. Large egos and fierce competitive streaks abound as the chefs travel to a different region at the beginning of each episode.
They are tasked with completing three challenges, either based on a local ingredient or mastering a local dish – each of which can earn them a star. Then comes the ultimate test: the preparation of a three course meal inspired by the region’s local cuisine. The challenges are judged by a local panel that includes Michelin-starred chefs, food journalists and merciless critics. According to who wins the most stars throughout the challenges, one chef will be named winner of the region at the end of the episode. After several regions and challenges have been explored, the chef who has won in the most regions will be named overall winner in the Battle of the Chefs.
Along the way, the competition brings moments of excellence, frustration and humour to the viewer – all of which contribute to the creation of some enthralling television.
