A tale of the dark and treacherous ballet underworld and its closely guarded secrets
Dani has dedicated her whole life to ballet, but even more so since her father died and she became the breadwinner for her stepmother and stepsister. Not only is performing her passion and reason for being, but she thinks of the owners of her dance company as family. Dani’s skill and beauty are treasured by the Ballet Mistress – so much so that she gives Dani her big break, casting her as Prima Ballerina in Swan Lake.
On the brink of her grand debut, Dani is run over outside the theatre in a hit-and-run, leaving her severely injured. Her world turned upside down, she is consumed by theories about who was driving, and strategies for recovering from her soul-destroying loss.
Dani starts speaking with Yali, the ballet company’s lawyer, a young high-flyer who becomes involved in the investigation and manages her compensation claim. He is unable to control his attraction to her and they begin a complex and passionate love affair. But he is concealing a terrible truth – that it was he who was driving the car that brought Yali’s career to an end.
Intricately plotted, Hit and Run exposes the ballet world’s unknown underbelly and tells a story of impossible love, rooted in a web of deception surrounding one fragmented family.
