The Gordin Cell, the Israeli spy drama that NBC is currently piloting stateside as MICE, is now being developed for local production in Russia.
Russian production company JITV has bagged rights to adapt the espionage series for Russia and the CIS territories, distributor Keshet International has confirmed.
“Russia has always been a great market for Keshet with the remakes of The Successor, Traffic Light and Prisoners of War [aka Homeland] now in pre-production,” said Alon Shtruzman, Keshet International’s MD.
The Gordin Cell (12×60′) aired on Israeli satellite TV platform Yes DBS in 2012, created by Ron Leshem and Amit Cohen and produced by Tedy Productions.
Remake rights have since been acquired by NBC to create a show titled MICE, referring to the four main motivators for spies: money, ideology, coercion and ego. Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) is behind the US version via his prodco Film 44.
