Big-Budget Series comes from the Creators of Smash Telenovela, ‘Violetta,’ with Kenny Ortega Attached as EP, Creative Supervisor and Choreographer for Both TV and Digital Series

 Los Angeles and Mexico City, Aug. 24, 2017 – Keshet International’s Mexico City-based production company, Keshet MX, today announced that it is attached as co-producer of Campanario Entertainment’s BANDOLERO, a pioneering Spanish-language musical TV series. Keshet International will be worldwide distributor of the series, with Keshet Digital Studios (KDS) developing an English-language digital-first US version based on the format.

Both versions will have Kenny Ortega, the acclaimed producer, director and choreographer, attached as executive producer and creative supervisor. BANDOLERO is Ortega’s first-ever Spanish-language project and enters the international market on the heels of the Aug. 20 Latin American premiere of Ortega’s highly successful TV movie, Descendants 2, on Disney Channel/Disney XD, after its recent US airing amassed more than 26 million viewers.  

Having garnered three Emmy Awards, two Directors Guild of America Awards and many others for his work in film, television, live events, concerts and theater, Ortega’s film credits include Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Dirty Dancing; and directing Newsies, Hocus Pocus, High School Musical 3 and the documentary, Michael Jackson’s This Is It. In TV, his work encompasses Disney Channel’s High School Musical trilogy and Descendants’ franchises, the opening and closing ceremonies of the Atlanta and Salt Lake Olympics, multiple Super Bowls, single-camera series and major music events including The Oscars and The Emmys®. His stage work spans concerts for Jackson, Cher, Barbra Streisand, Gloria Estefan, The Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus and others.

Keshet MX and Campanario will begin showcasing the big-budget global series (two seasons of 60 X 60) to buyers in the coming months. It heralds from creators Solange Keoleyan and Sebastian Parrotta, who wrote the smash Disney Channel telenovela Violetta – a phenomenon throughout Latin America and Europe with a book series, movies and a sold-out world stadium tour.

 Once the series is produced, Keshet MX and Campanario will expand the BANDOLERO brand into an umbrella of ancillary products and merchandise, based the series’ original music and choreography.

The move follows Keshet MX’s sister company, Keshet Studios in Los Angeles’, exceptional success in the 2017/18 pilot season, with two fall network pickups for NBC’s The Brave and CBS’ Wisdom of The Crowd (both co-productions of Keshet Studios and Universal Television). BANDOLERO tells the story of forbidden love and lofty musical dreams that slowly reveal the origin of a powerful, Hispanic superhero.

The series represents the most ambitious undertaking for Keshet MX since its launch this past January, with a focus on packaging the best talent, content and producers. KI has inked several output and co-development deals in Latin America, including a four-series scripted output deal with Televisa (the first project of which, Loaded, has been remade locally as Mint, with a second now in the works); a co-development deal with Telemundo for a scripted Spanish super series; and two non-scripted development deals with Mega in Chile and Telefe in Argentina.

Additionally Keshet MX has produced a Colombian version of Touch for Caracol in partnership with South America’s largest retailer, Grupo Exito; and is in production on a local version of the game show BOOM! for Caracol; as well as having several other high-profile productions in the pipeline.
