Rising Star continues to expand in Europe with Portuguese deal
Keshet International, the global distribution and production arm of Keshet Media Group, has sold hit talent show RISING STAR to Portugal.
Portuguese commercial channel TVI is the latest broadcaster to acquire RISING STAR following deals in the US (ABC) UK (ITV), Spain (Atresmedia), Italy (Toro), France (M6 Group), Russia (Rossiya1), Germany (RTL), the Nordics (Nordisk) and Hungary (TV2). The show is set to launch in Portugal in 2014.
“We thank TVI for choosing Rising Star, which is becoming one of the biggest selling formats of the last few years. TVI with its dominancy of the Portuguese market, is the best partner in the territory to drive such an innovative and game-changing show”, said Alon Shtruzman, Managing Director, Keshet International.
“This format is in line with our innovation strategy. TVI is permanently looking for the best and most promising entertainment formats and “Rising Star” is clearly one step ahead of what is being done with talent shows worldwide. This is our first bet on such a powerful talent show format”, said Bruno Santos, Head of Local Programming, TVI.
RISING STAR is a trailblazing interactive talent format that hails a new era in home entertainment. Its launch marks the first real-time voting by viewers via an innovative free app ‘TV app to you’ that is fully integrated into the show.
If the performer secures 70% of the viewers and the judges votes, the screen rises in the studio and the new star is revealed. From the very first minute of the very first episode, viewers will continue to play an integral role in every decision made on the show throughout the entire season.
RISING STAR produced by Tedy Productions for Keshet Broadcasting, marked a record-breaking debut on Keshet’s Channel 2 in September, and keeps breaking records with 46.6% average share, with half of all TV audiences tuning in to the show.
Over 9 million votes have been tallied through the app, which has been downloaded more than 1.5 million times. RISING STAR has far out performed all second screen data ever recorded in Israel, with a participation rate 10 times higher than previous shows, and is maintaining high ratings and conversion rates (viewers to second screen participation) and is leading the weekly charts.
