Netflix, Hulu and YLE onboard the format that multi-award winning Homeland is based upon.

Keshet International, the worldwide distribution arm of Israel’s Keshet Media Group, has struck three new deals for its successful dramaPrisoners of War, continuing an impressive streak of international broadcast deals for the show.

Netflix Nordics has purchased the broadcasting rights for the first season of Prisoners of War for Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland while US online streaming service Hulu has now purchased the second season, which will air on Hulu and Hulu Plus this year after a successful run of season one.

YLE, Finland’s free to air broadcaster has purchased the second season after licensing season one. YLE launched season one on January 7. Season 2 is set to air during 2013.

International networks which have picked up or aired Prisoners of War  to date include Sky Arts in the UK; Franco-German network Arte for Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg and Switzerland; SBS Australia and Russia’s Weit Media.

Alon Shtruzman, Keshet International Managing Director said: “We are very proud of the worldwide success of Prisoners Of War, the various adaptations and the fact that the show was purchased in its original version to many territories proves the strength of a good story that relates to everyone.”

Prisoners of War follows two soldiers as they attempt to re-adjust to their lives after returning home from captivity for 17 years. In addition to their personal struggles, it becomes clear that there is a profound secret that the two are keeping from everyone. The first season was the highest rated drama of the year in Israel, achieving a 37% share (HH).

Season 2 launched on Keshet Channel 2 on October 15th of this year, and scored a 40% average share, making it the most viewed drama in Israel in 2012.

In late 2009, Keshet and writer Gideon Raff sold the format rights for Prisoners of War to Twentieth Century Fox. Raff partnered with Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, creators and producers of hit US show 24, to write and develop the American adaptation. Homeland debuted on Showtime in 2011, breaking viewership marks for Showtime as the best drama series debut for the network in eight years and went on to win multiple Golden Globes® and Emmy Awards®.
