Keshet International, has sold the rights to its new prime time reality format ‘Marathon’ to Banijay Productions France, a Banijay Group company.
Banijay Productions France has optioned for the French market the aspirational format, which sees five people with no athletic background get together to achieve one common goal: to run a marathon in eight months.
Banijay Productions France is the first international partner to pick up the format after KI debuted it at Mipcom in October. The programme is already garnering interest from around the world.
The Israeli format has been produced by Kuperman Productions for Channel 2 and will air in 2013 in its home territory.
Marathon sees a world-class coach being assigned to participants, who creates a training programme specifically for their needs. Each stage marks a step towards their goal – telling five distinct stories of struggle and triumph.
Keshet has previously sold and optioned several formats to France including The Vault (sold in over 18 territories), We’ll Always Be Mum & Dad and 50 Things You Have To Know.
Keren Shahar, KI’s Head of Distribution & Acquisitions said: “Marathon is an ambitious format with universal themes of fitness, personal battles and triumph against all odds. We have high expectations for the format when it premieres in Israel next year and we are already in advanced discussions with a number of international broadcasters.”
