10 April 2017 – Keshet International has closed a flurry of deals throughout CEE for both its scripted and non-scripted formats and premium finished drama.
It has licensed 140 episodes of the International Emmy®-winning “buddy” comedy Traffic Light to TV3 (MTG) in Lithuania to air as a stripped (Monday – Thursday) daily comedy. The deal builds on the success of the Russian version of the show, 10 seasons of which have been commissioned to date totalling 200 episodes. A Chinese adaptation Traffic Light (Huace Croton) is also in development.
Additionally the SVOD platform Pickbox, which is available in Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Macedonia and Montenegro has picked up two seasons of the award-winning best seller Prisoners of War (10 x 55’, 14 x 45’) and the critically acclaimed Croatian crime drama The Paper (12 x 50’). The Paper has also been acquired by the public broadcasters RTV in Slovenia and TV Vijesti in Montenegro.
The variety game show Who’s on Top has been licensed by Pink for Serbia, Bosnia and Montenegro and is currently in pre-production. Who’s on Top has previously been licensed by RCTI in Indonesia.
Paula Cohen McHarg, Senior Sales Manager for CEE, CIS and Africa at Keshet International said, “KI is becoming increasingly more sensitive to the needs and demands of the CEE content industry – as evidenced in part by our strategic acquisition of The Paper – and I’m pleased to see that our universal formats and high quality finished shows are even more able than ever to cater to the tastes of the region. Whether its laugh out loud comedy or gripping drama, we can provide exactly what’s needed to put viewers on the edge of their seats.”
Additional info about the shows:
Traffic Light was voted Israel’s most-loved scripted series of all time in a recent nationwide viewer survey. In addition to the afore-mentioned Emmy®, it was also awarded Best Comedy in the 2010 Israeli Academy Awards. The series centers on three guys in their 30s, their enduring friendship and the very different cards that life has dealt them. Like all good friends, they are only too happy to offer each other advice about their personal problems – whether emotional or practical. But as each friend’s perspective is based entirely on his own circumstances, suggestions inevitably range from the inappropriate to the downright ridiculous. Traffic Light is all about friends navigating life together, always with hilarious results. The original series was created by Adir Miller and produced by Endemol Israel for Keshet Broadcasting.
The Paper created by Ivica Djikic, Nebojsa Taraba and Miodrag Sila and directed by Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize winner Dalibor Matanic (Un Certain Regard, The High Sun) is set in the busy newsroom of a daily newspaper. A highly-acclaimed, provocative drama, it presents an ensemble cast navigating the blurred lines between morality and integrity. When Mario Kardum, an influential and politically conservative building contractor from a powerful family buys a left-liberalist newspaper in deep financial trouble, he has two underlying, questionable motives. Spotlighting the universally fascinating relationship between the media, the government, the church and law enforcement as well as the powerful social elite and their corporations, The Paper is a blistering, fast-paced account of the obstacles and dilemmas faced by today’s press. Has the profession of journalism, once so important, become nothing more than an instrument to achieve other, even greater interests?
Prisoners of War is the winner of nine Israeli Academy Awards in 2010 including Best Drama and Best Director. It centres on three Israeli soldiers who were captured seventeen years ago while on a secret mission with their unit in Lebanon. The story begins with their return home, after years of negotiations for their freedom. Two soldiers return to Israel alive, the third comes home in a coffin. The series explores the soldiers’ reintegration into Israeli society on both a national and personal level. However, while the soldiers are reacclimatizing to their lives, a secret investigation is also unfolding, into the truth surrounding their capture and the many discrepancies in the soldiers’ stories. As the investigators get closer to finding what really happened to them in captivity, the two soldiers become even more determined to hide the biggest secret of all. Prisoners of War is created, written and directed by Gideon Raff and produced by United Studios and Tender Productions.
Who’s on Top? is a unique and an eye-catching entertainment format, which sees three contestants suspended in “air pods” scaling in-studio towers five stories high and faced with fun trivia questions to which only two answers apply, such as “more”, “less”, “true” or “false”. If answered correctly, the contestant’s air pod springs to life and quickly ascends to the next level of the tower, accumulating money as it goes. However, if they get the answer wrong, they plummet all the way to the basement level, leaving only their head peeking above the floor until the next round. The goal of the game is to keep climbing and make sure you’re on top. The contestant who makes it to the final round will play for the chance to win the money accumulated by all three players throughout the game. Who’s on Top? was co-developed by Keshet Broadcasting and Flare Media International and created by Erez Tal.
