Keshet International’s hit game show format BOOM! has been commissioned by leading Kazakhstani channel, Channel SEVEN (Dancing with the Stars, The Star Factory). A 34 episode series is scheduled to air on Channel SEVEN this autumn and will be produced by Arai Production.
The news follows the launch of BOOM! in its first international territory, Spain, on 9 September. Its first episode became the most-watched show of the night (all audiences under 55 yrs old). Antena 3 attracted a 15.6% average audience share, an increase of some 29% on the channel’s slot average, before peaking with a 17% share as more viewers tuned in to see final few tension-filled minutes. BOOM!’s debut was particularly popular with younger viewers and saw off stiff competition from the European Championship football game between Spain and Austria, along with long-running quiz and magazine shows on rival channels. On 10 September the second episode of BOOM! drew an average share of 15.1% and the third on 11 September an average of 15.4%. The series will be stripped across the week from Monday to Friday from next week.
Channel SEVEN joins FOX in the US, TV2 in Hungary, VTM in Belgium and TF1 in France which will each begin airing the show soon. Five further territories have also picked up the format and will be announced shortly.
BOOM! enjoyed the highest-rated game show launch ever in Israel, the first series drew an average share of 38% across the series peaking at 43%.
BOOM! fuses the drama, intensity and thrill of a blockbuster action movie with the high octane fun of a video game. Full of comedy, color and excitement – BOOM!’s fresh approach rolls the intellectual AND physical challenges of existing game shows into one must-see event for viewers of all ages. A squad of four players must defuse eight (replica) bombs by answering trivia questions correctly within a strict time limit. In nail-biting scenes, the nominated player must defuse one bomb per question by cutting through colored wires which represent multiple choice answers against the clock. If the player answers correctly the prize money remains intact and they move to the next bomb, if they cut the wrong wire, or run out of time the bomb will explode strewing material across the studio and visibly shaking the set – and the team will lose one player and 25% of the potential prize money. BOOM! delivers fierce tension and light-hearted humor in quick succession, extending the experience not only to those in the studio, but also viewers at home who can play along.
